Building No 13: Amatol Mixing

Amatol mixing building. The Ammonium Nitrate and TNT are pre-heated
on the third floor, and dumped into the Amatol buggies on the
first floor, for loading into the bombs. The passageway at the
right leads from Building No 15.
The conveyor at the left comes from Building No 10, and is shown
here entering Building No 12.

When the TNT is melted and the Ammonium Nitrate thoroughly heated,
they are dumped to the mixers on the second floor below.

A mixer can be seen at each end of the room with chutes coming
down from the heaters on the third floor above.

Amatol is dumped through chutes to the first floor below, ready
to be loaded into the bombs.

the Amatol buggies to be hauled to the loading tables. The tub
on the buggy is steam jacketed to keep the Amatol at the proper
temperature.

and equipped with automatic couplings so they can be wheeled from
one place to another and quickly connected with the steam lines
to maintain a constant temperature.
